Research, a cornerstone of the University of Georgia mission, advances knowledge and understanding, underpins instruction, improves the quality of life and enhances economic development.

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) supports and promotes UGA research and scholarly activity through improving the day-to-day work environment of researchers, building new directions in research, ensuring responsible research practices, and communicating the value of research within and beyond the university.

A University of Georgia research project to improve the health literacy skills of Georgia’s elderly and disabled has been funded by federal stimulus monies.

Georgia ranks as the third worst in the nation for overweight or obese children. That status has the attention of university researchers; government agencies; and healthcare, public health, philanthropic and community organizations from across Georgia who will convene for a November conference in Atlanta.
