Fourteen cross-disciplinary
research institutes and centers report to the OVPR. Institutes provide
enhanced interaction to the research program by drawing on faculty
expertise from more than one department, school or academic unit. Centers
are devoted to a specialized advanced area of research.
As of March 2006, several of OVPR's centers, institutes and groups will be housed in the new Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences, a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary facility commemorating the late senator Paul D. Coverdell. In addition to representatives from colleges, centers, institutes and groups across campus, the building will be home to a $2.3 million bioimaging center and an innovative rodent barrier facility. The Center for Health and Risk Communication, The Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases (CTEGD),The Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute (BHSI), and The Developmental Biology Group (DBG) are housed in the Coverdell Center.
