The mission of the Human Subjects Office (HSO) in the Office of the Vice President for Research is to assist UGA faculty, staff, and students in meeting the highest ethical and professional standards when conducting research with human subjects. HSO performs professional and administrative functions in support of the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
The IRB is s research oversight committee charged with ensuring, both through advance and periodic review, that research involving human subjects are conducted in compliance with the applicable federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures for the protection of human subjects in research.
