The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) at the University of Georgia is comprised of many distinct divisions. Each area of the OVPR is specialized in its own field of compliance or service.

The staff behind the many research divisions are dedicated to helping those who need their expertise and their talents in finding funding, grants, commercialization licensing, compliance issues and much much more.

DIVISIONS

Accounting/Business
Assists UGA personnel in adhering to UGA accounting and business policies and procedures.

Business and Economic Development
Nurtures and stimulates the development of new media services businesses, software development companies, and biotechnology companies for the benefit and expansion of industry in Georgia.

Communications (News & Information)
Provides information about UGA research programs and findings to key audiences.

Compliance

  • Animal Care and Use
    Oversees and coordinates research activities that involve the use of animals.
  • Biosafety
    Provide guidance and assistance in the protection of faculty, staff and students from exposure to biohazardous materials, and guards against the release of biohazardous materials.
  • Human Subjects/IRB
    Reviews projects that involve human subjects to assure compliance with regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Quality Assurance
    Provides oversight for research investigations that must comply with the federal mandate of the Good Laboratory Practice standards (GLPs).
 

 

Internal Grants and Awards
The University of Georgia Research Foundation (UGARF) funds competitive internal grants to support promising research projects and internal awards to recognize outstanding research accomplishments and creative achievement.  It also oversees national competitions with restricted candidacy, such as the Searle Scholars Program and the Beckman Young Investigators Program.

Legal Services
Advises the Office of the Vice President for Research regarding intellectual property, research agreements, regulatory compliance, and other legal issues related to research.

Research Services
Supports UGA research and teaching programs through services such as materials, analyses, repairs, laboratory services and technical advice.

Sponsored Programs
Administers external research, instruction, public service and cooperative extension proposals and awards.

Technology Commercialization
Transfers technology developed at UGA to the marketplace.


OVPR AFFILIATES

Research Foundation, Inc. (UGARF)
The University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. (UGARF) serves the University of Georgia (UGA) and enhances its excellence as a research institution by securing gifts, contracts, and grants from industry, public and private non-profits, and government agencies for the performance of research and education. In addition to administering sponsored research at UGA, UGARF performs the technology transfer function for the University, taking assignment of inventions, obtaining patents and copyright or other intellectual property protection, and licensing inventions to the private sector in return for royalty income to further support the research mission of the University.

Centers and Institutes That Report to the Vice President for Research
Institutes provide enhanced interaction to the research program by drawing on faculty expertise from more than one department, school or academic unit. Centers are devoted to a specialized advanced area of research.
