New Faculty Startup Request Guidelines
Submitting Requests and Negotiating Searches
- Deans complete the New Faculty Startup Request Form. Save the form to your computer and electronically submit to OVPR via email attachment to jhawks@uga.edu. Department Heads should submit their requests to their dean. (NOTE: All prior requests and unsuccessful searches need to be resubmitted for new faculty startup each year. Allocated funds to unsuccessful searches will not automatically roll forward to the new fiscal year.)
- The Office of the Vice President for Research will review all requests. The form will be returned to the deans with an ID# assigned to each position and indication as to which positions are earmarked for OVPR startup funds. Please use the assigned ID# in all future correspondence regarding the position.
- When the department/candidate has identified a candidate for the position, please send an email to jhawks@uga.edu or call 2-5056 to verify the startup package amount and availability. Please be sure to include the position's assigned ID#.
- All draft offer letters must be proofed by OVPR (send to jhawks@uga.edu) and all official offer letters must be signed by the Vice President for Research. OVPR's startup commitment should be started as follows: "The Office of the Vice President for Research will contribute $XXXX in startup funds ($x in FY1, $x in FY2 and $x in FY3) to be used toward (list all that apply) equipment, supplies, personnel and X terms in summer salary, (etc.)."

- If the first candidate declines an offer, then OVPR must be consulted before offering the allocated funds to a second candidate.
- The allocated funds to unsuccessful pursuits of candidates will not roll over to the next year. The search must be reopened and startup funds must be re-requested from OVPR
