The Human Subjects Office (HSO) is responsible for the oversight of all research activities involving the use of human subjects. It performs professional and administrative functions in support of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure compliance with the federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures for the protection of human subjects in research. A human subject, by definition, is a living individual about whom an investigator (whether professional or student) conducting research obtains (1) data through intervention or interaction with the individual, or (2) identifiable private information. HSO offices and staff are located on the sixth floor of the George H. Boyd Graduate Studies Research Center.
