OVPR › Internal Grants & Awards
As part of the overall mission in support of research across campus, OVPR operates Internal Grants & Awards to support, facilitate, and reward research activities. UGARF provides funding for these programs.
“Seed grant" programs support initial work by early career faculty or in a new area of research to get projects off the ground.
The Faculty Research Grant program funds early career faculty in the sciences and social sciences.
The Willson Center for the Humanities and Arts funds faculty at any stage of their career for research in humanities and arts.
The Poverty and the Economy grant program funds research in these important research areas.
Biofuels, Biopower, and Biomaterials Initiative supports new research projects in the area of renewable bioenergy.
Faculty of Infectious Diseases supports interdisciplinary research projects in this developing area.
Research accomplishments by UGA faculty and graduate students are recognized at the annual Research Awards Banquet each spring.
Graduate student awards include the Robert C. Anderson Memorial Award, the James L. Carmon Scholarship, and the Excellence in Research Awards.
Faculty awards include the Creative Research Medals, the Creative Research Awards (the Albert Christ-Janer Award, the Lamar Dodd Award, the William A. Owens Award), and the Inventor's Award. Faculty also are recognized with the title of Distinguished Research Professor.
Limited submission programs are those for which funding agencies restrict the number of nominations or proposals a university may submit for consideration for an award. The University of Georgia, therefore, must internally screen all eligible and interested nominees to determine which will represent the university.
Please visit the “Limited Submissions” section of the Research Newsletter to view a list of current limited submission competitions. Please note: This list is neither exclusive nor exhaustive, since new programs are developed and existing programs change. If a UGA researcher intends to submit for a limited submission program not on this list, he/she must contact Jessica Hawks at jhawks@uga.edu or 706-542-5056.
Documents required by OVPR are listed for each internal competition. Potential nominees must ensure that they are aware of any additional requirements of the awarding body beyond the OVPR internal competition. Unless stated otherwise, all required documentation should be submitted electronically (preferably as a .pdf) to jhawks@uga.edu by the posted deadline.
It is the responsibility of the researcher and nominating body to ensure that all eligibility guidelines are met prior to submission for internal review by the OVPR.
Every effort will be made to maintain current and accurate information within this list; however, the awarding agency’s posted information remains the final authority.
If you have any questions, please contact Jessica Hawks at jhawks@uga.edu or 706-542-5056.
