Internal Grants & Awards FAQs
Internal Awards
Can I self-nominate for any of the award programs?
The official nomination that is submitted to OVPR must come from a nominator other than the nominee. Check the guidelines for the specific award program for details who is allowed to be a nominator.
Internal Seed Grants
I am a Research Professional IV; can I apply for a Faculty Research Grant?
No. This is a staff position; FRG funding is limited to faculty positions, both tenure-track and non-tenure track.
Can I request money to attend a conference to present the results of my research?
No. Travel to conferences is most often supported through colleges or (for foreign conferences) can be requested through the OVPR Foreign Travel Assistance Program.
Foreign Travel Assistance Program
Try to get at least an email correspondence regarding your participation in the conference. If that is not possible go ahead and submit your application with a note explaining the situation and you will submit your documentation when you receive it.
You can apply for assistance in the next deadline cycle. Please keep in mind that you may have to travel without confirmation that you will be reimbursed as there is no guarantee that you will be awarded.
What happens if my application is submitted late?
Late applications (those submitted past 5:00 pm on the deadline date) will be considered in the next deadline cycle.
If I am awarded, what is the process for using the funds for my travel?
Your award letter will tell you who to contact in OVPR's Accounting Division. Also, see the "Award Procedures and Conditions" section of the guidelines.
The Foreign Travel Assistance Program is a competitive program with limited funds. Applications are reviewed on the caliber of the meeting and the significance of the individual’s participation. Because of the limited funds we are only able to fund a limited number based on the priority scores.
