90-minute Basic Budget Development sessions
Faculty members new to UGA this Fall and several who arrived last Fall have asked that OVPR conduct a special workshop on proposal budgeting. We are happy to do so.
The Office for Sponsored Programs will be offering several 90-minute Basic Budget Development sessions this fall. They are designed to introduce proposal novices to general budgeting concepts vital for developing fundable proposals. The casual, seminar-type format will let us introduce you to “how UGA does it and why” and allow you ample time to ask specific questions and get straight answers. Please join us at one of the following sessions:
- Wednesday, Sept. 30, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm - 103 Connor Hall
- Tuesday, Oct. 6, 3:00 – 5:00 pm - 103 Connor Hall
- Thursday, Oct. 8, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm - 103 Connor Hall
- Thursday, Oct. 8, 1:00 – 3:00 pm - 103 Connor Hall
Topics to be discussed:
- Direct Costs (what’s allowable and why)
- Indirect (F&A) Costs: What they are why they are needed
- Why some items cannot be direct charged to your award, and when and how you might be able to get around this prohibition
- UGA’s multiple F&A rates and when they apply
- Effort expended on projects and why it is tracked
- Cost Share, both mandatory and voluntary
- Domestic vs. foreign travel: Why it matters where you are going
- Rebudgeting within your award
- The pre-award and pending award processes
- How to use OSP’s budget preparation templates
*Sessions will be videoconferenced to the Griffin and Tifton campuses
Note: These sessions are designed for faculty members submitting proposals to EXTERNAL entities. Faculty members who received start-up packages will be contacted individually at a later date regarding an information session with Marsha O’Connor, Director of OVPR’s Budget Office, so she can go over UGA’s rules for expending start-up funds
