Abstract: |
The
National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute of Mental Health invites research applications to reduce prescription drug misuse while supporting the appropriate medical use of therapeutic agents that carry an abuse liability. A range of research is being solicited to combat prescription drug misuse—from epidemiologic research specifying the extent and nature of the problem (including physical and mental health and social consequences) as it relates to each specific drug and identifying determinants and trajectories of use. Basic science applications to determine mechanisms of action at the cellular level and possible mechanisms or medications to block or lessen the abuse potential are encouraged, as are health services applications with the goal of discovering effective clinical practices that identify those at risk and designing and disseminating prevention and treatment interventions. |
