Abstract:

The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards provide seed money for research by junior faculty at Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) member institutions. These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities. Full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track appointment (2/5/2008 through 2/5/2010) at the time of application at an ORAU member institution are eligible.

Please note that the number if submissions to this opportunity if limited to two per institution. If you interested in applying for this opportunity please submit the following materials via email to jhawks@uga.edu by noon on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. The two applicants chosen for submission by the Award Selection Committee will then work with Sponsored Programs to submit the full application to ORAU.

  1. Nomination letter from dean or department head in PDF format.
  2. A one-page abbreviated resume with a second page listing publications and/or presentations in PDF format. Please make sure to include the date of initial tenure track appointment at UGA.
  3. Candidate statement explaining why the applicant should be chosen as one of UGA' two submissions in PDF format.
  4. A two-page research proposal that should address the following (in PDF format):
    1. Research goals and objectives and relevant background
    2. Expected research outcomes and relevance
    3. Research design and methodology
    4. Competence of the applicant to perform the proposed research
    5. The available research facilities and resources
    6. A budget justification

We ask for PDF format because ORAU requests PDF in the final submissions.
