The University of Georgia has been invited to submit one application for the 2010 competition. If you are interested in applying to be UGA's applicant please send the following materials as a PDF file via email to jhawks@uga.edu by noon Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

  1. Letter of support from Dean or Department Head, also confirming that the candidate has a tenure-track faculty appointment and providing start date.
  2. Candidate statement explaining why your proposal should be chosen for submission.
  3. Applicant CV.
  4. Send OVPR a brief (two-page) description of proposed work and address why this research is novel and important.

The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to selected academic institutions to support the independent research of outstanding individuals who are in the first or second year of their appointment at the assistant professor level, and whose current appointment is a tenure-track position.

Applicants for year 2010 awards will be expected to be pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences.

Candidates should have begun their first appointment at the assistant professor level on or after July 1, 2008 and therefore be in their first or second year. This appointment must be a tenure-track position, and must be in an academic department of the University of Georgia.
