Technology Transfer Process
The Technology Commercialization Office (TCO) seeks to transfer technology developed at The University of Georgia (UGA) to commercial companies. Commercialization of UGA technologies contributes to economic development and provides research funds for UGA.
- If you think you have a patentable invention, download and complete the Invention Disclosure Form. Send document to tco@uga.edu.
Upon receiving the invention disclosure, the appropriate technology manager will be assigned to your case and will meet with you to discuss your invention.
- TCO, in conjunction with the inventors, consultants, and patent counsel, evaluates the commercial potential of the invention. Inventions that meet the requirements for receiving intellectual property protection are submitted for patent, trademark, copyright or plant variety protection.
- TCO identifies companies that are most likely to be successful in bringing the technology to the marketplace. Inventors will meet with interested parties.
- TCO will negotiate a license with the interested company. Licensing income is shared among the inventors, their research program, their department and UGARF according to The University of Georgia Intellectual Property Policy. UGARF's share of licensing income is used to support research at The University of Georgia.
