Technology Commercialization Office
University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc.
The mission
of the Technology Commercialization Office (TCO) is to facilitate
the transfer of technology developed at The University of Georgia*
to commercial enterprises where the technology can be put to beneficial
use. This is accomplished by two primary activities. The first activity
is obtaining intellectual property protection (patents, trademarks,
plant variety protection certificates, copyrights, or trademarks)
on university inventions. The second activity is to license the intellectual
property rights and associated technologies to commercial companies
which have been identified as being the most likely to bring the
technology to public use and provide a reasonable financial return
to UGARF. Additionally, TCO supports faculty with negotiation of
material transfer agreements and other contracts governing university
technology.
*[In accordance
with University System of Georgia Board of Regents policy, all intellectual
property at The University of Georgia (UGA) is administered through
the University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. (UGARF) in accordance
with the UGA Intellectual Property Policy and the Intellectual Property
Administration Agreement. An agreement with the Georgia Seed Development
Commission has established guidelines for the commercialization of
new plant cultivars developed at the Georgia Agricultural Experiment
Stations.
