The
Technology Commercialization Office (TCO) seeks to transfer technology
developed at The University of Georgia (UGA) to commercial companies.
Commercialization of UGA technologies contributes to economic development
and provides research funds for UGA.
Upon
receiving invention disclosures, TCO, in conjunction with patent
counsel, determines if UGARF should seek intellectual property protection.
TCO, in conjunction with the inventors and consultants, evaluates
the commercial potential of the invention. Inventions that meet the
requirements for receiving intellectual property protection are submitted
for patent, trademark, copyright or plant variety protection.
TCO
identifies commercial companies that are most likely to be successful
in bringing the technology to the marketplace. Licensing income is
shared among the inventors, their research project, their department
and UGARF according to The University of Georgia Intellectual Property
Policy. UGARF's share of licensing income is used to support research
at The University of Georgia.
